What is a Life Coach?

A Life Coach is an experienced person who supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance. The learner is sometimes called a coachee. Occasionally, coaching may mean an informal relationship between two people, of whom one has more experience and expertise than the other and offers advice and guidance as the latter learns.

What's the difference between a Life Coach, a Therapist or Mentor?

While therapists and life coaches can be great for improving your life, they’re not the same. The major difference between therapy and life coaching is that life coaching focuses on your goals while therapy focuses on mental health. Coaching differs from mentorship by focusing on specific tasks or objectives, as opposed to more general goals or overall development.

  • Coaching sessions focus on the present and future, whereas therapy sessions typically focus on healing from the past.

  • Therapy sessions are generally more open-ended, whereas coaching sessions are more focused.

  • Coaching is usually short term, while therapy is usually long term.

  • Coaching and therapy have different types of goals.

  • Many therapists take insurance. The majority of coaches do not.
